Your notes are personal. We believe your private thoughts and creations should stay private.

Inkwell stores all your notes locally on your device.
- Your handwritten notes never leave your device through our app
- Audio recordings are stored only on your device
- Time-lapse videos are stored only on your device
- We have no way to read your notes - even if we wanted to
1. Information We Do NOT Collect
Inkwell is built to respect your privacy. We explicitly DO NOT collect:
- Your handwritten notes or drawings
- Your audio recordings
- Your time-lapse videos
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Your folder organization
- Usage analytics or behavior tracking
- Device identifiers for tracking
- Any other personally identifiable information
2. Data Storage
2.1 Local Storage
All your data is stored exclusively on your device:
- App Container: Notes, drawings, and audio are saved locally on your device
- Local Database: Data is stored in a local database within the app
- Audio Recordings: Voice recordings are stored locally, not uploaded anywhere
- Time-Lapse Videos: Recording playback data is saved locally
- Your Control: You have full control to delete data at any time
2.2 Backup and Restore
Inkwell provides manual backup functionality:
- Export Backup: Creates a JSON file containing all your notes and folders
- Import Backup: Restores notes from a previously exported backup file
- Your Control: You decide when and where to save your backups
- No Cloud: Backups are not automatically uploaded to any cloud service
2.3 Data Retention
- Data remains on your device until you manually delete it
- If you uninstall the app without creating a backup, all data is permanently deleted
- We do not retain any copy of your data on our servers
3. Permissions We Request
Inkwell may request the following iOS permissions to function:

Note: All permissions are optional. You can manage these permissions in iOS Settings at any time. The app functions fully without granting these permissions, though some features may be limited.
4. Audio Recordings
When you record audio while taking notes:
- Local Processing: All audio is processed and stored on your device
- Local Storage: Recordings are saved within your notes locally
- No Upload: We do NOT upload your audio to any server
- Your Recordings: You retain full ownership of all audio you record
- Deletion: When you delete a note, its audio recording is also deleted
5. Handwritten Notes and Drawings
When you create notes with Apple Pencil or touch:
- Local Processing: All drawing is processed on your device
- Local Storage: Drawings are saved locally within your notes
- No Upload: We do NOT upload your drawings anywhere
- Your Art: You retain full ownership of all content you create
6. Time-Lapse Recordings
When you create time-lapse recordings of your drawings:
- Local Storage: Time-lapse data is stored locally on your device
- No Upload: We do NOT upload time-lapse data to any server
- Export: You can export time-lapse as video to share as you choose
7. In-App Purchases
Inkwell offers a one-time Pro purchase. Here's what we know:
7.1 Purchase Data
- Handled by Apple: All payment processing is done by Apple through the App Store
- What We Store Locally: Only purchase status (e.g., "user has Pro") stored locally on your device
- What We Don't See: We NEVER see your credit card, payment method, or billing address
- Purchase Verification: Verified through Apple's StoreKit framework locally on your device
7.2 Purchase Option
- Inkwell Pro: One-time purchase for permanent Pro access
- No subscriptions, no recurring charges
7.3 Receipt Validation
- Purchase receipts are validated locally on your device
- No receipt data is sent to external servers
- Apple handles all transaction records according to their privacy policy
8. Third-Party Services
Inkwell integrates with Apple services only:
8.1 Apple App Store and StoreKit
- Purpose: In-app purchase processing and management
- Data Shared: Purchase transactions (handled entirely by Apple)
- Privacy Policy: Apple Privacy Policy
8.2 Apple Local Authentication
- Purpose: Face ID / Touch ID app lock
- Data Shared: None - biometric data never leaves your device
- Privacy: Biometric data is stored in the Secure Enclave, not accessible to apps
8.3 No Third-Party Analytics
- We do NOT use Google Analytics, Firebase, or any analytics services
- We do NOT use advertising SDKs
- We do NOT use crash reporting services that collect user data
- We do NOT use any tracking pixels or trackers
9. Children's Privacy
Inkwell is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages:
- We do NOT knowingly collect personal information from children
- No account creation required
- No online features or social sharing within the app
- No user-generated content sharing
- Complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
10. Data Security
We implement security measures to protect your data:
- Local Encryption: iOS automatically encrypts data on devices with passcode/biometric lock
- App Lock: Optional Face ID / Touch ID protection for the app
- No Network Transfer: Your note data never leaves your device through our app
- Secure Storage: Uses iOS sandboxing for data isolation
- No External Access: We cannot remotely access your device or data
11. Your Rights and Choices
You have full control over your data:
11.1 Access and Deletion
- View All Data: All notes are visible in the app
- Delete Data: Delete individual notes or all data at once
- Export Data: Export notes as PDF or create a full backup
- Uninstall: Uninstalling the app deletes all local data permanently
11.2 Permission Management
- Revoke microphone access in iOS Settings
- Revoke photo library access in iOS Settings
- Disable notifications in iOS Settings
- Disable Face ID / Touch ID in iOS Settings
12. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do NOT sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
12.1 When We Might Share Data
We may only disclose information if required by law:
- To comply with legal obligations (e.g., court order, subpoena)
- To protect our rights, property, or safety
- To prevent fraud or illegal activity
Note: Since we don't collect user data, there is practically nothing to share. Your notes stay on your device.
13. International Users
Inkwell is available worldwide:
- All data processing occurs locally on your device
- Complies with GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and other privacy regulations
- Available in 9 languages
14. Changes to Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top
- Posting the new policy at this URL
- In-app notification for material changes
Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
